Top tips to beat the post-holiday blues

beat the post-holiday blues

It’s that time of year when we’re firmly brought back to earth after the fun of the festive season and time in sun with our friends and family. Whether you’re back to work or just back to the routine of life at home, you might find yourself deep in the post-holiday blues.

But, it doesn’t all need to be doom and gloom. We’ve got some great tips to cheer you up and pull you out of the post-holiday blues.

Get back into a routine – you’ll feel more grounded and in control of your emotions once you’ve established a routine and got back into the rhythm of everyday life.

Stay active – exercise boosts those happiness endorphins, gets you out in the sunshine and fresh air, and improves your mood and energy levels.

Connect with friends and family – plan some social events and activities to look forward to, and catch up with people you haven’t had a chance to see over the festive season or while you were away.

Reflect on the positives – Reminisce about your holiday by scrolling through your photos, sharing some memories or putting together a photo book to flick through.

Focus on the present – Remember the good things about your regular day-to-day life such as being able to visit your favourite local cafes, or spend time in the relaxing spaces in your home.

Incorporate something from your holiday into your everyday life – find a way to enjoy your holiday activities while at home, whether it be reading books instead of watching TV, lying around in a hammock, or going for a nice long walk.

Cherish the weekends – Leave the list of chores for a bit and head further afield for your weekends to spend time at the beach, explore nearby local towns or potter around in the weekend markets.

Plan your next trip – start planning your next adventure to give you something to look forward to and think about.

Buy yourself something nice – of course we’d recommend an Ellenny Swim piece for your next trip, but it could be a beautiful candle, some furnishings for your home or a plant for your garden.

The important thing to remember is that the post-holiday blues will pass and you’ll be back into the swing of normal life soon enough. Plus, it’s usually the sign that you’ve had a really great holiday! :-)
